Visit a Restorative Dentist if You Are Missing Teeth

Missing Teeth Forest Hills, NY

For some people who have missing teeth, finding a solution can seem like a scary or stressful process. If someone has lost multiple teeth, it may have become normal, or they gave up attempting to resolve the issue. However, with recent advancements in dental technology, it has become an ordinary occurrence to have teeth replaced. There are more options than ever before, and most can be completed in two dental appointments or less.

How restorative dentistry can help with missing teeth

Restorative dentistry has some options when it comes to replacing a missing tooth or multiple teeth. Depending on the patient's mouth and other factors, a couple of options are available. The following is a brief overview of these options and how they can replace the missing teeth and improve the look of your smile, all at the same time.

Dental implants

One of the most popular options for a multitude of dental issues is dental implants. Because of their straightforward care routine, implants are still one of the most popular options that dentists recommend to patients with missing teeth.

Restorative dentistry focuses on the restoration of teeth to get a person’s mouth in the best condition it can be in. Dental implants are used to replace teeth, and function just like natural teeth. However, they also help with one more issue that is a great perk for people with missing teeth.

Because of how they are inserted are put into the jawbone of a person’s mouth, the dental implant does much more good than just restoring a tooth or teeth. By having the metal post inserted in the jawbone when a person speaks and chews throughout the day, it gives the same stimulation that a natural tooth root would. By having this stimulation, the jawbone is protected from any deterioration occurring.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges are an excellent option for people with multiple missing teeth that are in a row. Because of how the dental bridge is fastened on the teeth, a bridge is an excellent option for replacing the line of teeth. They are also secure but can be removed, unlike dental implants.

The bridge is fastened to a clip that is positioned on either side of the gap. It is attached to the two natural teeth that are still in proper condition and health. The bridge will rest in between the two healthy teeth and be the replacement that also looks like natural teeth.

The only difference between bridges and implants is that they are not fastened in the jawbone. There will not be the added benefit of jawbone stimulation to deter any deterioration from occurring.
